I'm on the verge of having a mechanic delve into the front axle of my 4wd 2550,I'm sure I have a bad pinion and maybe a ring gear too.He prepared me for the fact that I could possible spend up to a 1000.00 on parts and as I will be purchasing them I see no reason to doubt him. Are there salvage yards for tractor parts where I could possibly purchase a used front axle or would it be better to fix the one I have for at least then I would know what I have. Someone's info or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Adept Resources has a list of tractor junkyards and here is the Calif. page; the site seems somewhat dysfunction- when you go to the bottom of the page and click on "Home"the Home page appears and the last button "Parts" should take you to the junkyard listing by state. http://www.adeptr.com/Ca.htm ....

www.adeptr.com/agyards.htm try cut and paste re tractor junkyards. The "http://" can corrupt the url by putting it in twice or adding it when not necessary ....

Hi Larry, I just found this site and your question. I have dealt with a Kubota yard in Kevil,Kentucky. It is called West Kentucky Tractor Parts, phone is 270-462-2191. They have a toll free # I think but it's not on the receipt. They were good to deal with, there is another one in Myerstown, PA. but they didn't have the part I needed. I don't remember their name but you can find it by doing a search for Kubota salvage yards with AltaVista search engine. Good luck, Karl ....

I had forgotten about this post entirely, after searching fruitlessly for a replacement I came across an experienced 4 wheel drive man and he offered to look at it. I dropped the whole front axle and took it to his shop, he disassembled it and we viewed the damaged parts. New ring and pinion, r&p bearings, seals and assorted spacing rings, I picked up everything at the Kubota dealer for 550.00 and he reassembled it and it's fine now. As he explaind this was not rocket science and any competent 4 wheel or rear end repairman could do this, you have to have available for him the specs for spacing the R&P and spacers,it's in your shop manual if you have one. Best part 100.00 labor. ....
